About our equipment for trial studies

Microemulsion instrument

Under high pressure, the high-speed impact of parts of a substance refines the substance into an emulsion.
Nanoscale emulsion can be produced from using the emulsion as the substance and further fragmenting the emulsion particles.
The use of this instrument can open up new possibilities for formulations. For example, it can also be useful for the development of liposomal formulations.
To check the emulsion size, you can use the particle distribution analyzer.

Three-roller mill

The instrument is very useful in trial production of cosmetics for makeup or UV protection. While it can evenly disperse particulate titanium dioxide and zinc as it adjusts oil paste to evenly disperse pigments, it can also adjust the dispersal itself. This tabletop machine is easy to use.

Cosmetic powder press machine

The instrument has the power of about 1 ton of force to press powder into shapes.
It is mainly applied to cosmetics for dry makeup.
The prepared jigs for foundation and point makeup have diameters of 58 mm and 35 mm, respectively.

Assessment Instruments

Various assessment instruments are available in Open Lab. You can run a physical check and check the effect and efficacy of trial models. The main measuring instruments are described below.

Combing tester

The main method of assessing hair care has been sensory assessment. With bundles of hair, this instrument can quantify (visualize) the amount of tangling and the amount of static electricity generated. By combing through hair at a constant speed under a shower of water with a constant flow and temperature, the tester can obtain stable numerical assessment results. Both rinse-off and leave-on products can be measured.

Skin analyzer

Corneometer・・・Instrument for measuring moisture levels
Tewameter・・・Instrument for measuring transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
Sebumeter・・・Instrument for measuring lipid levels
Cutometer・・・Instrument for measuring skin elasticity
Reviscometer NEW・・・Instrument for measuring skin sagging

Skin analyzer

VISIA evolution

The instrument can determine the quantity of blotches, wrinkles, skin roughness, inflammations, hidden blotches, and porphyrin (acne germs). Even in measurements over time, the function by which the position of face perfectly fits the previous one enables it can easily measure the same parts every time with a face matching function that perfectly positions the face at the same place. The measurement results can be analyzed with a comparison using the same gender and age.

SPF analyzer

UV protection products on the market have two reference indexes: SPF and PA.
SPF is an index of the abnormal reddening of the skin due to UVB rays. PA is an index of the immediate darkening of the skin due to UVA rays.
The SPF analyzer simply measures SPF and PA by in vitro testing.
We are entrusted with the testing. For details, please contact the person in charge of sales or Customer Solution (CS).
We can also perform in vivo testing. For details, please contact the Safety Study Trust Services.

SPF analyzer

Laser diffraction particle distribution analyzer

The instrument can measure particle diameters from 30 nanometers to 700 micrometers.
You can check the particle diameter of emulsion adjusted with the microemulsion instrument.
By checking for differences in particle diameters, you can calculate stability and other properties.

Friction sensitivity tester

The instrument assesses the friction properties on the surface by using hair and artificial leather. Shown by smoothness (MIU) and silkiness (MMD), the resulting data is ideal for assessing the screening of combined ingredients and the final product.

Color meter

The color of an object is completely different depending on the illuminated light source and surface gloss. The light sources for this instrument include CIE and ISO reference illuminants as standard illuminants, daytime sunlight, an incandescent bulb as a light source, and others. So the meter can take measurements under different light source scenarios. The brightness of the light also has an effect on the color tone of materials. For a color as seen by human beings, only diffuse light is measured (SCE). For the color of a material itself, both diffuse light and reflected light are measured (SCI).

Other instruments are available in addition to the above-described equipment for trial studies and measuring instruments. For details, please feel free to contact the person in charge of sales orCustomer Solution (CS).
